Women's Radio FM 102MHz | for society and development

The Women’s Media Centre of Cambodia founded FM 102 radio station in 1999, with the objective of being recognized for high quality radio programs and to be respected nationally and internationally for professionalism and ethical leadership in Cambodia’s media sector.

The FM 102 National Radio Survey which was undertaken in January 2006* reveals that these goals are being achieved and confirms FM 102 as one of the countries leading radio stations.  

The chief findings of this report reveal that:

• The majority of respondents identified, in equal measure, FM 102 and FM103 as the most popular radio station in Cambodia

• 83.6% of respondents had listened to FM 102 including 77% of all youth respondents

• The majority of respondents tune into FM 102 because the programs are informative, educational and helpful

• 76.7% of respondents stated that FM 102 programs had positively influenced their attitude and behavior

• 72.3% of respondents believe FM 102 is uniquely different to any other radio station in Cambodia

The sample size of FM 102 National Radio Survey was 391 people, across six provinces. The gender of the respondents was evenly distributed, with 194 men and 197 women interviewed.

WMC's radio station FM 102 produces high quality, innovative, educational radio programs designed for all sectors of Cambodian society, especially women in rural areas.

In 2009, Radio FM102 increased broadcast airing time starting from 5:00AM to 12:00AM. Previously, the airing time was from 6:00AM to 10:00PM a day. The increase of air time is due to the demand of clients, partners’ need, and radio projects. According to the WMC Impact Evaluation 2008, the respondents from the government and other stakeholders strongly supported and recognized the important role of media, in particularly WMC which is playing role in providing forum to discuss women issues, women empowerment and medium for communication for awareness.

These programs focus on a wide range of issues which impact upon the daily lives of men, women and children. These issues include human rights, women's rights, women's health, HIV/AID'S awareness, trafficking, domestic violence, decentralization, poverty alleviation and social accountability programming.

FM 102 welcomes program partners, donors, advertising partnerships and sponsorships with corporate businesses and NGO's that share in the same vision; improving the lives and condition of Cambodian society. It is for this reason that WMC and FM 102, as a matter of policy, does not collaborate with or advertise alcohol, tobacco or beauty products.
