WMC’s TV Unit co-operates with local and international NGO’s to produce television and radio campaigns on social issues in Cambodia. The department also produces weekly TV dramas, comedies and documentaries for the general public to view and explore topical issues in Cambodia. Programmes are broadcast on TV3, TVK and CTN and made available for TV5, Apsara, and Bayon and through seven contact provinces.

The TV Unit researches and examines “hot topics” in Cambodia and produces and broadcasts high quality weekly programmes in response to these topics. Through popular television genres of drama, comedy shows, documentaries, and vox pop formats, WMC positively impacts national audiences by broadcasting the following programmes;

• Violence towards women and children: anti-domestic violence, anti-sexual trafficking, prevention of rape, drug and children labor

• Human Rights issues, including women’s rights, gender and the law relating to women and children

• Family and community development

• Health, birth control and spacing, maternal health

• Education, advocating the importance of children’s education

• Women’s rights in community development
  
  

• The TV Unit staff cooperated with the BBC World Service Trust and the Rockefeller Foundation to produce and broadcast video programming to increase HIV/AIDS awareness and maternal and infant health care in order to change negative and/or ignorant behaviors. The programmes also helped to educate Cambodian people on the dangers and consequences of tobacco use and encourage smokers to reduce and quit smoking altogether.
  
• The TV Unit is also responsible for organizing video training workshops for the youth, cooperating with IOGT-RIAN DAC from Sweden on drug prevention projects over a twelve month period. Upon the conclusion of the workshops, the youth participants will be skilled and experienced enough to produce their own educational programmes.
  
• The TV Unit also received support from the Rockefeller Foundation for an 18 month project focusing on women in ethnic minority communities. This project will launch the first insight into women from diverse ethnic minority groups in Cambodia. The TV Unit will produce 6 x thirty minute video documentaries that will be aired on major national television networks and broadcasted in regional and developing countries.

A huge achievement for the TV Unit was being selected by the Women’s Film Festival Committee in Paris, to screen a WMC drama called ‘Live’ which focused on the trafficking of Cambodian women, in March 2006.
